It's official. Team Patience is taking the show on the road in March. Slammin' Sammy and I are headed down to Lake Fork in Texas to pursue "The Bass Of A Lifetime"......the 10+ pounder.
We've booked legendary Lake Fork guide, Rick Loomis, to show us around on our first day. You can find information on Rick here; http://www.rickloomis.com/default.asp. Additionally you can hear some great fishing insite directly from Rick on the Bass Edge (http://www.bassedge.com/) podcasts and ESPN Outdoors (http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/index).
In talking with Rick last week he indicated that we will be fishing right at the end of the February spawn and beginning of the March spawn. Our plan is lots of moving baits, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Once we identify where the fish are, we'll slow down and throw some huge worms and/or creature baits. There will be many new variables to fishing a reservoir that Team Patience is not familiar with. It will be fun and challenging all at the same time.
To book a good guide that does it for a living you need to plan early. The only problem with that is you book this amazing trip 3 months in advance and then you've got to wait. It's difficult when all you've got in Minnesota is hard water this time of year. Yuck!
I'm going to go ahead and jinx myself now by saying that Team Patience will catch at least one fish that is 9+ pounds. Our goal is to average 5+ over the 3 days we are fishing. I can't wait to see what all those southern anglers think of my Deep V Lund. I'm guessing we'll get a few strange looks.
